Carbon & Climate Change

We are committed to reducing our carbon emissions as far as we can, ideally to Net Zero and then beyond into a Carbon Positive position.

In the last few years we have begun a programme of replacing fossil-fuel based systems with alternatives. Since 2019 we have installed four Air Source Heat Pumps to replace end-of-life oil boilers heating homes on the estate.

In 2022 we replaced our first piece of farm machinery with an electric alternative (it was an off-road UTV...we are starting small!) We hope to find partners to work with in future to help transition the rest of our fleet to low-carbon or zero-carbon fuel-ed alternatives over the next 10 years.

We are about to embark on the largest woodland creation (and recreation) programme the estate has seen in over 200 years. We plan to use carbon off-set revenues from this activity to build a sustainable native woodland management system for the long term.

2022 sees the commencement of an ambitious plan to re-incorporate trees back into our farmed fields. These will also draw carbon out of the atmosphere, and with the reduction in annual cropping the soil will do the same - see the Agroforestry section below to learn more.

We are proud to be working with Downforce Technologies to measure and report our changing soil health on the estate.
