Latest Wildlife Hide sightings
The list below is what we have seen, or what we have been told about. Clearly these are wild animals and birds so there's no guarentee they will stick around. Treat it as a guide as to what's active rather than a menu of potential shots! Our hides do have trail cams monitoring activity, but they can't always pick up the smallest birds, so chances are there's lots more in and around the hides that we know about.

Woodland Hide
Red Kite (feeding on the ground, within 5m of the hide)

A recent visitor form Canada used South Lodge as a base to explore.

"The house we stayed in was the South Lodge which is well equipped and suitable for 2 couples or a family of 4. London is a 20 minute drive to the station in Braintree and then an hour by train to Liverpool Street Station. Also Cambridge is nearby as well as any number of quaint villages and places of interest."

Gareth was once again in the area for work with some collegues and instead of opting for a characterless hotel he stayed in North Lodge. This is their second time staying with us and clearly the cottages provide exactly the sort of relaxing, comfortable and well-equipped base he is looking for.

"Excellent house in amazing surroundings. The house is clean, warm and very comfortable. Also fitted with a high end oven & showers are prefect. Cheers Archie and thanks again."

5 star review for Crest Lodge!
Fantastic cottage, very comfortable and a wonderful location.
"We had a fantastic revisit to this beautiful cottage on the edge of Finchingfield. We were fortunate enough to get married at the church in the village then have our reception at Spain's Hall, this cottage was ours for our first night as a married couple, so it brought back many happy memories.  Arranging this short stay was made very easy by the owners and they were very friendly and welcoming. The village itself is very picturesque with many lovely tea rooms, particularly the Greedy Duck. The pubs are good and there is a lovely little Italian restaurant in the heart of the village.  A stay here is very worthwhile, we will certainly be returning next year."

It is awalys wonderful to be recognised for the hard work you put in so we are over the moon to have been awarded a Certifcate of Excellence by TripAvisor for 2017.

We do our very best to make sure that everyone who comes to stay with us in our hidden corner of rural Essex has a comfortable, and relaxing time. Our guests always tell us it is the little things that make the difference, like the starter pack of breakfast ingredients, or having crisp white sheets to fall into at the end of a long day.

This is a huge boost to the whole team, but rest assured we will continue to strive for better in the years to come!

A recent guest in North Lodge left this wonderful review on the AirBnB website:
"Beautiful cottage, beautiful surroundings, I had such a lovely few days and felt well rested. My 3 year old also loved the house, the garden and the horses in the field opposite. Very easy to deal with host and quick responses. I would definitely recommend."
